Preparing for a Hot Summer

Two Signs That Your Vehicle's Hydraulic System Is Failing

The hydraulic system in your car is one of the most important components of the vehicle. The hydraulic system plays a key role in allowing the car to brake properly when you depress the pedal. However, it's easy to neglect the hydraulic system and not recognize the signs that it is in need of repair. Use this information to learn more about the signs that indicate that it's time to take your car to a machine shop to have the hydraulic system inspected.

The Car Pitches Forward When You Brake

One of the telltale signs that your hydraulic system may be failing is that your car tends to pitch forward when you brake. This could mean that there is a problem with the hydraulic pistons, and this issue needs to be taken care of right away.

You may have seen cars on the street that have had this problem. The driver will depress the brake pedal, and the front end of the vehicle will pitch forward, sometimes so deeply that the vehicle nearly touches the ground. In addition, the car's shell may move or shake much more than normal. The hydraulic system on a vehicle helps to adds stabilization so that it doesn't move uncontrollably. Excessive vehicle movement can diminish the quality of your driving experience and could even be dangerous, since the movements could end up shaking one or more parts in the car loose. This could create additional mechanical issues that you'll have to get repaired.

Your Brake Pedal Is Hard to Press

When your hydraulic system is in working order, you'll find that although there is a slight bit of resistance when you press the brake pedal, it doesn't take an abnormal amount of pressure to get the brake to go down. However, if there's a problem with the hydraulic brake booster, you'll notice that it takes considerably more effort to depress the pedal.

A hard brake pedal is serious because you wouldn't want to have to deal with this issue when you're trying to avoid hitting another vehicle or object. The hydraulic brake booster likely either needs more fluid added to it or needs to be replaced. A machine-shop worker can handle the task for you.

If either of these signs crop up, don't ignore them or assume that they are normal. Get your vehicle over to a machine shop specialist such as one at Certified Products Co right away so you can have your car repaired and get it back on the road.
